A 4th of July Eagle

Hello All,

I finally managed to sneak in a little bit of imaging last Sunday night. I got 24 4-minute exposures before the clouds came in. Here's M16, the Eagle nebula.

I've been shooting nothing but galaxies for months. These nebulas are so much easier to process (especially if they're big and bright).

Purbach' s Cross / Lunar X

Purbach' s Cross / Lunar X To All: Being bored and photon deprived, I said, what the heck, and rolled out the 18" Obsession on the driveway to observe the moon!

And, BINGO, as it's just past first quarter by hours, there it was, plain as the nose of Karl's face!

The Lunar X!!

And to prove I wasn't making this up, I took a picture! Click image for details.
Note, image orientation is the "correct view": naked eye or binocular.

Pix of Karl, Chris A, and Robert in Aug Sky & Tel NEAF article p36

Check it out. I was looking at the NEAF article and noticed Chris and Karl and Doc Werkman on the wide field picture of the floor on page 36, center right. And is that Karl's back at the APM booth on page 39?

'scuse me, while I kiss the sky....

Are we finally getting the long anticipated break in the skies? All the usual suspect weather sites appear to forecast favorable conditions for Wednesday night. I'm going to make plans for DS2. Lionel will probably accompany me.

Tonight?

DS2 or DS4?

Want to see how the weather looks around 6:00pm
