Event Details

Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site in Elverson, PA will host StarFest and once again it’s FREE!!!

Saturday September 16, 2017.

Time: 5:30PM to 11:00PM.

Featuring speakers, astronomy presentations, and activities for kids followed by public viewing of the wonders of the Milky Way through various types of telescopes.

5:30 p.m. Telescope set-up and solar observing.

6 – 7 p.m. Kids Corner educational activities.

7 p.m. Opening Remarks: President of CAS, Josh Wright, will talk about the evening’s events and a little history of CAS and StarFest.

7:15 p.m: Special Guest – Peter Detterline – Peter is an avid astronomer whose interests cover a wide range of the astronomical spectrum. He will be sharing his experience of The Great American Eclipse of 2017. Don’t miss it!!

8:00 p.m. Keynote Speaker/Topic – Stephen Leete, Mission Systems Engineer from NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. He will talk about Gravitational Waves…, the ripples in the fabric of space-time caused by some of the most violent and energetic processes in the Universe.

9:15 PM. Drawing of the Grand Door Prize followed by public stargazing through amateur telescopes until 11PM.

Join your neighbors at the lower parking lot at Marsh Creek State Park in Eagle, Chester County for an exciting evening exploring the wonders of the heavens.

Watch a sunset become a star-laced sky, view planets, star clusters and galaxies using our members’ telescopes and live view star cameras. There will be activities to thrill and challenge all ages, so don’t miss out!

These events are free of charge provided to the community by your neighbors who are members of the Chesmont Astronomical Society. Free will donations to the society will be gratefully accepted.

Because these events are clear, dark sky, weather dependent be sure to check our website (www.chesmontastro.org) after 5:00 pm for last minute schedule changes.
